Arsenal win and Klinsmann exits

In the end Arsenal cruised to a 2 goal victory at Emirates against a Middlesborought who look very likely to be relegated this year. Arsenal on the other hand strengthened their 4th place with this victory and also managed to get two key players, Fabregas and Walcott some rest ahead of the Champions League match against Manchester United.

It was free flowing football from Arsenal and it is not everyday that teams allow us to do this. Fabregas was on top form and as usual our catalyst Arshavin was on song. There were couple of moves from him that drew lots of oohs and aahs from the crowd. Towards the end of the match he was tired but he was worth very penny that we spent on him. Wenger doesn’t buy expensive players and when he does, they are on players like Arshavin…rare and fine cut like a diamond.

Ferguson was watching the game from the stands and I am sure he must have seen the creativity when we go forward. Arshavin will be missing but with Nasri, Walcott and Fabregas in the team I am sure United will have lots of problems to take care of. Man Utd also had a good game and I am sure Wednesday night will be a good match with Arsenal being the second favourites to go through, so the pressure is on United.

In other news, Klinsmann is out…If someone had told me an year back this is going to happen, then I would have laughed it. I wuld have thought that even if he did decent enough (which is what he has done so far) he would be persisted with. The Bundesliga club has made a press statement saying that they “may not achieve its minimum targets for the season”. I think the Barca result in the Champions League was a stab in their reputation. Anyways more on CL football soon.

What a match!!! Kudos Arsha and Fabianski

The best match of the premier league this season happened in Anfield last night when Liverpool drew with Arsenal in a pulsating 4-4 draw. The match came late night in India and I was watching it alone, sitting on every piece of furniture in my living room after every goal we score, hoping that my new position would make our team lucky and we don’t concede another goal. I was in touch with fellow Gooners on the mobile, texting them after every goal was scored or conceded. And when Arshavin scored his and the team’s 4th goal,I called up Clash and we couldn’t talk much obviously as we were stunned by the goal and by our no.23.

Arshavin is one of those signings, who brings a new dimension to the team. Creativity meets end result when this genius of a player gets going. His second goal and fourth are examples of these. It is not everyday that Wenger says,” I’ve been in the job a long time but I haven’t seen a player score four goals in a top game like that.” For his second, he stole the ball from the Liverpool defender, Arbeloa and sent a peach of  a shot past Reina for his second. For his fourth he matched Walcott on pace and cracked a wonderful left-foot shot around the other side of Reina. This guy had four shots and all of them were goals. I know that there will be matches where he will have shots wide of goal but I don’t care about it as not many score 4 goals in Anfield when Liverpool play like that.

Our other hero was Fabianski. He buried all the ghosts of the FA cup and was instrumental in keeping the Liverpool attacks at bay. He must have saved atleast 3-4 sure shot goals. And I am sure that must have given some reassurance to the back four. The fabulous Fabianski had a brave night and I am sure it is not easy keeping goal in front of the Kop. And our young keeper did a commendable job keeping Torres and co. under control.

More on this match later.

Arsenal in Champions League semis

Its been a while since I blogged but I should put in a word for the entry into the semi finals of the Champions league where we take on a lacklustre Manchester United. Villareal were without their influential midfielder Senna and Arsenal has three of their back four injured and Fabianski at goal.

Walcott had one of his best European matches and his goal was a cool finish from a deft pass of Fabregas of a Eboue pass. Adebayor scored his 8th consecutive Champions League goal in 8 matches in which he has started. Van Persie rounded off a penalty in the 69th minute to kill the tie. Song, Eboue and Fabregas were brilliant and it seems the young Arsenal team is now gelling together and producing results.

The best thing is Arshavin is fresh and raring to go in the Premier league and FA cup so we have one creative guy waiting to perform. With Eduardo also expected this team is looking really good. Gibbs deputising for CLichy is also in his elements and looked confident in the CL tie. Walcott was causing all sorts of trouble for the current European Champions left back, Capdevila.

The weekend also sees us taking on Chelsea in the semis of the FA cup. Chelsea played one of the best European matches in drawing with Liverpool 4-4 and hence qualifying for the semis with an aggregate of 7-5. It was one of the best European ties I have seen and I was quite happy that Liverpool lost. Sweet revenge for what they did to us 2 years back. With Arshavin etc available for the weekend I am looking forward to that match.

Last weekend’s league match in which we beat Wigan 4-1 took some time coming, making many a fan nervous. Arshavin has been a catalyst who has come and improved the team and Fabregas has been looking very effective with Arshavin as you see that these two are involved in almost all the Arsenal build ups. Anyways lets see if we can win at Wembley on Saturday.
