Gunners need to buck up

On a saturday when Man Utd put six past Newcastle and Chelsea showed their depth in beating Tottenham, Arsenal could manage only a draw against lowly Birmingham. Arsenal’s draw meant Man Utd with a better goal difference push Arsenal to second place.

This match reminded me of last season when we played like this and ended up dropping points to teams like Birmingham. They could not find a way past the crowded defence of Birmingham no matter how hard they tried. The commentators kept on saying that there is no width in attack for this Arsenal team and it looked like that for sure.

Walcott got a start but for all his brilliant speedy runs he ended up losing possession quite meekly. He needs to be physically more stronger and stand upto tackles. Hleb and Flamini both had a decent match and so did Almunia. Senderos looked steady and his aerial ability was quite good at time. Clichy made a few forward runs and even had a few shots at goal, thats a good sign. But sometimes I feel he runs too fast for himself to control the ball.

The people who played below their ability were the forwards Adebayor and Eduardo. They did not even have a proper shot at goal. And for the penalty I thought Eduardo wasted too much time on the shot before being tackled from behind. Bendtner came in and looked a bit lively.

But what has happened to the form that this team displayed in the first half of the season. Why is Fabregas & Hleb not scoring any goals. We cannot look at dropping form or goals especially when Man Utd look in such ruthless form and Chelsea seem to have depth in their squad. I just hope the team shows its character in the coming matches and we live to fight for the Championship.
