Finally…a Brazilian born Croatian Top Scorer

Yes…finally we have bought somebody. I was at the extremes of my patience waiting for Wenger to make a move. To be frank I am surprised by the selection. I was thinking he was saving his penny for Tevez, but was always afraid that he will buy another underachieving youngster.

This dude is called Eduardo da Silva…he scored 34 goals last season for Dynamo Zagreb

(Wiki says)…In the first part of the 2006-07 Croatian First League season, he led Dinamo to a first-place finish at the winter break as he netted 18 goals in 18 matches, including three braces and a hat-trick, and added another seven assists to his tally. In addition to this, he was the only player who appeared in all of the club’s 18 matches before the winter break, also being in the starting lineup in each of the 18 matches. In mid-November 2006, he scored two hat-tricks in two consecutive matches he played for the Croatian national team and Dinamo in a timespan of four days.

He moved to Croatia from Brazil when he was 15 and got the Croatian citizenship when he was 22. His transfer is expected to be worth about 6 mil pounds.

So you will hear more about him this season and I wish him luck in scoring more and more goals.

  1. A word of caution – us Chelsea fans had high hopes for one Mateja Kežman, a Serbian who was rattling them in one season in Dutch, but proved horribly goal shy in the Premiership the next. Wenger’s normally a good judge, but this struck me as something of a panic buy. I’d like the Gunners to be challenging United et al next season, but I wouldn’t pin too many hopes on this guy. May be he’s a replacement for Aliadiere rather than Henry?

We’ll have to wait till the season is well under way to see how this one plays out. There have been many such players who’ve come and gone – some creating the impact and some – NOT. I think Wenger would have done much better signing a guy like Huntelaar. Now this guy fits arsenal’ s playing style very well, is a proven scorer and has immense talent to be somewhat of a bergkamp. Arsenal typically do well with dutch players. With pool signing Torres (great signing), and Man-U in the run for the Tevez sweepstakes, Arsenal are in grave danger of being left behind.

Oh, I think Eduardo will work just fine, I’ve seen him in a ton of Euro 08 qualifying games, and he’s quality against quality competition.

  4. Eduardo is hot! 🙂
